My Stay-Cation in NYC

Can y’all believe that we are past the Fourth Of July? It baffles me to say that we are already in the month of July. I have been so occupied with getting even more settled in my apartment, getting my groove into work, and finding some great hidden gems in NYC that I remembered I don’t have a vacation planned for this summer. Last year when I was living in the Midwest, I came home to the Northeast for a week in July and then in September I went down to Florida to get my last blast of warmth before fall came.Even though I am not going to travel anywhere, that doesn’t mean that I can’t have fun staying in my own city. #Staycations are all the rage these days and I am going to fully embrace it.

Living in NYC can either be the greatest thing or the worst thing depending on how you define it. You are constantly around millions of people and it can sometimes feel hard to relax and unplug. I have realized how important it is to make your home very relaxing and the place you feel fully comfortable in. When I get back to my apartment after work, I really just like to relax whether it is on my bed or on my couch. Since moving to my new apartment I have been inspired to change up my bedding and I think my Stay-cation is the time to do it. I was introduced to an amazing company called Crane and Canopy that specializes in luxury bedding at an accessible price (insert two hands up emoji). I have been spending so much time looking at their website and I wanted to share with you all some of my favorites. As they say, bed is the easiest hello and hardest goodbye so make sure you pick the best bedding for you that will make you love being in bed even more!

On the weekends I sometimes make some coffee and breakfast and bring it in bed with me. It is more of a nice luxury than anything so I definitely do not do that very often. During my stay-cation I am going to treat myself to breakfast in bed all weekend. Nothing beats grabbing a good book or watching a show on Netflix with coffee and breakfast in hand. During the winter months I was catching up on a new show and made some delicious waffles and enjoyed in bed. Since it is Summer I am thinking during my stay-cation I will be making a yummy yogurt parfait with some fresh fruit.

Something that I have been doing every single weekend is sitting in a park overlooking the Hudson River. New Yorkers have been extremely blessed with such great weather (I better not be jinxing anything) the past couple of weeks and every Saturday or Sunday I find myself spending hours outside reading a book and enjoying the sunshine. I have been using a beach towel and I find it either uncomfortable or not really practical because I feel like I can’t spread out and fit all my belongings on my towel. As I was looking up new bedding I saw some great throw blanket options (inset link) and it sparked a brilliant idea. I’ll highlight a couple below that caught my eye and I know they will be very practical for not only the outdoors but indoors as well.

There are so many great things about having a stay-cation. Here are some ideas to think about to make your stay-cation even better:

Have a relaxing bubble bath while eating a pint of ice cream

Go to a new restaurant in your favorite neighborhood

Have an in-home spa day

Read a good book

Turn of your phone and get off social media

Go to a farmers market

Walk everywhere

I am really looking forward to my stay-cation and I am interested to hear if you are thinking of having a stay-cation as well? If so, what does your stay-cation entail?
